AREX |
Do you have numerous medications to juggle on a daily basis? AREX is an application of Alpha Five that will help a lot of medications.
Consider this. This article on the CARP website doesn't mention patient error as the source of most medication mistakes. Also, this.
A daily regime of a couple of dozen medications taken at different
times can lead to careless, absent-minded dosing. Very dangerous!
Scaramouche has a solution. Not perfect, but works for folks who
approach their medications with determined focus and orderliness.
AREX is
very useful for caregivers, too. You can run it from a notebook
computer with a seperate folder and db for any number of patients.
The first issue to confront is the cost of the Alpha Five software: over $300. You can get a free demo here. If you can't swing it, perhaps your pharmacists or physician may want to create an AREX regime for you.
You can download and install AREX (below) free.
AREX provides...
- a daily checklist to keep track of each dosage
- an inventory of your current medications to keep all of
healthcare professionals appraised of your medication regime and to
carry with you in case you are hospitalized--this list will be
vital
- a requisition form for systematic re-ordering from your druggist
- documentation for insurance claims and tax deduction.
The checklist will help you take all of your medications on time,
without risking accidents like double-dosing. We believe this will save
lives.
Here's how to get started:
(bookmark this web page or print it out
- If you are producing and maintaining your own AREX file (or someone you are caring for) get acquainted with Alpha Five. Download a demo version and look it over. It comes with a tutorial that is helpful in decisions.
- Create a folder on any hard drive and label it "AREX" or "AREX"+name if you are tracking more than just your own medications..
- Click here to download arex.exe -- a self-extracting zip file. Place it in the folder you just created and unzip it.
- On your desktop, create a shortcut to AREX.adb; change the icon to arex.ico,
which you'll find in the same folder. If there are more than one
patient, change the shortcut's caption to include a distinguishing name.
- See the AREX user guide.
